A PERCUSSION DUELLING PISTOL BY J. BARTON, REBUILT FROM FLINTLOCK; AND A SPANISH PERCUSSION SERVICE PISTOL
The first circa 1815; the second dated 1858
The first with signed browned twist octagonal sighted barrel with platinum line and engraved percussion drum, engraved breech tang, signed engraved bolted lock (the hammer repaired), figured walnut half-stock, chequered butt, engraved blued spurred trigger-guard with pineapple finial, horn fore-end cap, vacant escutcheon, and traces of original finish, London proof marks (ramrod replaced); the second struck with a series of Spanish arsenal marks on the lock, with flush-fitting pivoted nipple-shield, brass barrel-band, iron belt hook, and stirrup ramrod (steel parts pitted).
