A FINE PAIR OF FRENCH FLINTLOCK OFFICER'S PISTOLS BY CASSAIGNARD À NANTES
circa 1775-80
With brass barrels formed in two stages with moulded breeches, girdles and muzzles, the breeches engraved with scrollwork enclosing a large trophy-of-arms, engraved steel barrel tangs, signed brass rounded locks with linear borders, blued steel-springs, carved moulded figured walnut full stocks, full brass mounts cast in relief, including 'parrot's head' butt-caps, rounded side-plates inscribed with the owner's initials 'J.M.S', blued triggers and trigger-plates, and original horn-tipped ramrods, St. Etienne proof marks, the barrels forged by Pierre Tivet (the blued parts refinished)
