A SWISS ENAMELLED GOLD BONBONNIÈRE SET WITH A MINIATURE
by François Joanin, marked, Geneva, circa 1785/1790, with prestige marks including a crowned letter 'R', a rosette resembling the charge mark of Julien Alaterre and a hen's head resembling the discharge mark of Julien Berthe, the miniature bearing signature 'hall'
Circular box, the independent cover, sides and base enamelled in translucent purple with scattered gold paillon stars and pellets on an engine-turned ground of radiating concentric circles, the white enamel border with taille d'épargne gold pellets and stars, the cover centred by an oval miniature under glass depicting a lady bust-length in a lace-edged blue dress with pink roses in her upswept powdered hair, within a ropework gold mount, the frosted gold borders enamelled with translucent green trailing leaves and white berries, with ropework gold rims
