A LOUIS XVI-STYLE ENAMELLED GOLD BONBONNIÈRE
Continental, second half of the 19th Century, struck with various rubbed marks and one resembling the second charge mark of Henry Clavel, later struck with two Parisian post-1838 restricted warranty marks for gold
Circular box, the independent cover centred with a circular enamel plaque under convex glass, depicting the Love Oath of a young couple with two putti in a wooded landscape, within a frosted gold mount enamelled with translucent green leaves, gold flowers and acanthus buds, on a raspberry-coloured guilloché enamel ground, the sides and base similarly enamelled on an engine-turned concentric zig-zag pattern, the frosted borders enamelled with translucent green foliage and gold stylized flowerheads, opaque white enamel borders
