A SPODE FELSPAR CRESTED PART DINNER SERVICE
Circa 1825, puce printed wreath mark, iron-red pattern no. 4033
Painted in colours with a loose bouquet, the wide border with the crest, badge and motto of a Scottish Baronet and enriched in iron-red with bands of gilt four-petaled flowerheads and stylized floral scrolls beneath the gilt gadrooned rim, comprising:
A soup-tureen, cover and stand, 12.5/8in. (32cm.) diam., the stand
Two sauce-tureen, covers and stands, 7in. (18.4cm.) diam., the stands
Two circular footed vegetable dishes, 9in. (23.5cm.) diam.
A circular footed bowl, 10in. (26cm.) diam.
Eight graduated platters, 20in. (50.7cm.) wide, the largest, 10in. (26cm.) wide, the smallest
Nineteen soup plates, 9in. (23.8cm.) diam.
Twenty-two plates, 9in. (23.8cm.) diam. (58)

Lot Essay

It is interesting to note that the crest without the coronet round the lion's neck is of Nicholson a Scottish Baronet. Another branch of the same family does have the ducal coronet around the neck, however they are not Baronets. This combination of crest and badge is most probably for Nicholson of Glenbervie, Baronets.
