12o (168 x 95 mm). Armenian type. 8 folding plates, including a double-hemispheric World Map, one hand-colored plate of a volcano erupting, large engraved folding World map and folding table. 19th-century green half calf, marbled boards. Provenance: purchased from Emil Offenbacher, 25 March 1958.

A FINE COPY OF A SCARCE ARMENIAN GEOGRAPHY, written by the archbishop of Sunia and superior of the Armenian convent at San Lazaro in Venice. " The Armenian Catholics have the famous Mechitarist Congregation, really a special religious order founded by Mechitar (1676-1749). The Mechitarists have the monastery of San Lazaro at Venice, and a branch separated from the others in 1774 have a house at Vienna. By their schools, missions, and literary activity they have always done great things in educating and converting their countrymen" (Catholic Encyclopedia). VERY RARE: no other copy of the book is located in RLG or traced in American Book Prices Current.
