A George II black and gilt decorated tavern timepiece
Thomas Moore, Ipswich. Circa 1750
The trunk door decorated with a faded Chinoiserie scene with raised gilt buildings and characters on a black ground, the door lacking the lock and now with later latch, further gilt decoration to the trunk on a later moulded base, the bolection moulded octagonal dial frame signed Thomas Moore Ipswich on the frame beneath the gilt Roman and Arabic chapter ring with lozenge half-hour markers, later brass hands, the movement (possibly associated) with four pillars and anchor escapement
