Of 2-handled vase form, on trumpet foot, with domed cover capped by a pine cone finial, reeded, acanthus-capped handles, bright-engraved with bands of continuous flower-heads & foliate scrolls on a linear ground, the lower body engraved with stiff leafage which is repeated on cover, the sides applied with 2 oval, laurel-bordered plaques, one depicting, in low relief, a packet-boat off shore with a rising sun on the horizon, the other inscibed "His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales was generously pleased to present this cup to Captain Burton in consequence of his having preserved the life of Countess Noel by bringing her concealed in his Packet from France at the risk of his own life during the Revolution and landing her at Brighthelmstone, August 29th, 1792", 18 in. high (46 cm.), 76 oz.
