AN UNUSUAL BRESCIAN FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL WITH BRASS BARREL, LOCK AND MOUNTS, BY GIOVANNI POETA
Early 18th Century
With tapering barrel cast with a raised moulding at both ends, that at the breech matching a Paris inspired theme continued over the lock, the mounts and the stock, cut with an embellished version of the inscription 'Lazaro*Lazarino' within a recessed panel, engraved brass tang, signed bevelled lock cast with decorative recessed panels, carved moulded curly walnut stock (repaired below the lock, the fore-end replaced, almost certainly within the pistol's working life), full mounts cast in low relief, including spurred pommel with moulded octagonal cap and side-plate pierced with scrolls at the rear (the forward ramrod-pipe missing), and brass-capped wooden ramrod.
