A FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL BY GILLE DESELIER, LIÈGE
Circa 1710
In the Parisian fashion, with swamped barrel signed on the short medial rib, inlaid with small panels of finely pounced brass within a series of scroll-filled cartouches chiselled in low relief over the rear, enriched with engraved border patterns and also enclosing the maker's brass-lined stamp represented three times (Neue Støckel 8241), engraved brass fore-sight, chiselled inlaid barrel tang, flat lock with engraved bevelled edges enclosing brass-filled chiselled panels of scrolling foliage (the cock repaired), carved moulded figured walnut full stock, full iron mounts finely chiselled and inset with brass panels within finely engraved borders, including spurred pommel decorated with a circular pattern of strapwork scrolls carrying shells and human masks, domed cap, pierced side-plate involving a putto holding the Pillar device of the city of Liège, and original iron-capped wooden ramrod.
