Lot Essay

An example similar to the first type of figure (showing the whole torso) is illustrated by Rainer Rückert, Meissener Porzellan (Munich, 1966), pl. 225, no. 921, where he attributes them to Kändler or Meyer. Len and Yvonne Adams illustrate both models in Meissen Portrait Figures (london, 1987), p. 181, where they attribute them to Eberlein and Kändler.

A pair of figures similar to the second type of model (and mounted on later elaborate three-light ormolu bases) was sold in these Rooms on 27th June 2005, lot 165.
