A 19th century American folk art model of a clipper ship
Late 19th century
plank over solid hull and deck in mahogany with the planking pinned in place, built up bulwaks, and with ivory and tortoise shell details including: forward cap rails, pin and fife rails, windlass, capstan, tops and trees on the masts and other details in ivory; whaleback, cabin sides, and other details in tortoise shell. Other details include anchors, ship's boats, wheel, rudder, companionway and other details. Rigged with a bowsprit, three masts, cross spars, standing and running rigging (with some ivory or bone turning blocks), pennant and flag (tattered), and displayed on a shaped mahogany cradle.
22 x 30 in. (55.9 x 76.2 cm.) model on base.
