A Japanese ivory figure of a woman, 19th century
carved seated on a gnarled tree trunk supported on an oval base, with her legs turned to the left and the bare torso and coiffured head to the right, her left hand holding a hand warmer, with a cat at her side brushing against the long skirt decorated with square patterns and bamboo, incised Masayuki mark -- 7¾in. (19.7cm.) high.
