THE CLIFTON CUP:- A VICTORIAN SILVER HARE-COURSING TROPHY FLAGON,

The cylindrical body on skirted foot, finely chased in relief with hare coursing scenes in a rural setting, one side depicting a man attempting to restrain a pair of hounds pulling at their leash, having spotted the hare, a mounted huntsman & a windmill in the background, the other side with a pair of greyhounds fiercely pursuing the hare, a mounted huntsman at full gallop & a line of men with guns in the background, the cover with "C" scrolls & flowers around a central pedestal mounted with a leaping hare finial, the handle finely modelled as a running greyhound, the reserve at front inscribed "Presented to the Ridgeway Coursing Club by Mr. Alderman Jas.Cunningham, Blackburn, during his mayoralty in 1860. to be run for at Lytham, on the 7th. & 8th. Feb.y, 1861. Won by FANNY. Black. 1yr. 8 mos. old" and below this, "by Flapdragon--Petunia. The property of Thomas Townley Parker, Esq." & on the cover "The Clifton Cup-- 32 all aged Dogs", gilt interior, 11 3/8 in. high (28.6 cm.), 44 oz.
