A GOLD-MOUNTED ARAB SHAMSHIR BELONGING TO SAÏD ALI, SULTAN OF COMORES
19th Century
With curved fullered European blade, gold crosspiece of light construction punched and chased with scrolls and flowers (now a loose fit), gold pommel en suite, the sides of the grip faced with decorated gold strips bound by a decorative knot of gold wire, ivory grip-scales, and in its original scabbard covered in tooled leather, with three gold mounts en suite with the hilt, and retaining an early tasselled suspension cord.
