Meiji period
Decorated in coloured enamels and gilt on underglaze blue, the centre with a large panel of two birds perched on a tree beside two smaller shaped panels of a grasshopper and stylized lotus, all on a ground of peony in full bloom, the broad everted rim with four cartouches containing two pairs of large birds, divided by cranes and dragons on cloud- and trellis-patterns (star crack at the centre)
