Each painted with a band of garden flowers including rose, narcissus, cornflower, tulip and violet, the blue ground enriched with gilt and platinum palmettes and geometric pattern, lines and zig-zag ornament, the borders with a band of squares enclosing stars, the bulbous cup with a flared lip and high foliate handle with matt and burnished gilding and moulded palmette terminal, the interior richly gilt (slight wear to well of saucer)

Eugène Richard was a painter at Sèvres from 1833 to 1872. The form was almost certainly produced by the sculptor A. Brachard, see Marcelle Brunet and Tamara Préaud, Sèvres des origines à nos jours (Fribourg, 1978), p. 290, no. 353.
