The form taken from the coco-de-mer shell, the midriff with a band of cartouches alternating with roundels containing a naskh inscription in gold within a decorated border, the upper surface with densely flowering vine around the figures of two dervishes with gold inlaid details flanking an inscription cartouche, a smaller signature cartouche below, the underside with stepped cusped concentric medallions with gold details, the hinged brass loops each end for a suspension chain with turquoise inset details

拍品專文

The inscription on the top contains a verse from the Gulistan of Sa'di and the signature of Haji 'Abbas. Round the body are verses in Persian in praise of the kashkul including the name of the maker, 'Abbas. It also includes the number 1202. Were this to be a date it would equate to 1787-8 AD which is too early for the style of engraving.
