8° (223 x 146mm). 25 aquatint plates printed in sepia and 2 engraved leaves of music. (Slight paper adhesion to first plate, recto of C7 spotted, occasional stains at margins.) Contemporary French red morocco gilt, triple fillet borders, flat spine with green morocco label and repeated urn tool, gilt edges (extremities lightly rubbed).

FIRST EDITION, MOROCCO-BOUND COPY of this fully-illustrated guide to one of the most important 'English Gardens' on the continent. The plates by Mérigot depict many of the features which made these gardens famous, including Jean-Jacques Rousseau's tomb on the Isle of the Poplars. The text is sometimes attributed to Stanislas Xavier, Comte de Girardin. Cohen/de Ricci 704.
