The case with brass handle to the cushion-moulded top and glazed side panels, the front door with gilt-brass sound fret and applied with later gilt-brass escutcheons, the 7 in. wide brass dial with engraved chevron border, winged cherub mask spandrels and signed along the upper section Jos. Windmills/LONDON, the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with sword hilt half hour and half quarter hour markers, ringed winding hole, engraved date square and mock pendulum aperture to the matted centre, blued steel hands, the movement with later steel securing brackets, five ring-turned pillars, single gut fusee, restored verge escapement, quarter bell and pull quarter repeat work lacking, the back plate engraved with basket of fruit and scrolling foliate and signed Jos Windmills/LONDON; case key
