The cylindrical body raised on four tiger mask and paw supports and encircled by two raised, ribbed bands and a triple incised band at mid- body, possibly in imitation of a metal-mounted prototype, covered inside and out with a finely crackled glaze of slightly olive-tinged color continuing onto the base which shows the fine white ware

A Liao dynasty white-glazed tripod censer with similar mask and claw- foot supports was included in the exhibition, Chinese Art of the Song and Yuan Periods, Tokyo National Museum, 1961, no. 286.

The result of Oxford Authentication thermoluminescence test no. P108x97 is consistent with the dating of this lot.
