Lot Essay

"The table lamp was designed by Rietveld and Truus Schröder together in 1925. At that time Rietveld had his design studio in The Rietveld Schröder House. Besides the lamp Truus owned and which is visible on photos of the interior of the living floor in her house, she had a second copy. In 1975, when I completed the restoration of the exterior of her home to her great satisfaction, she gave me this one."

A similar lamp is in the collection of the Centraal Museum in Utrecht (cat. nr. 101).
