A FAMILLE ROSE 'BARAGON TUMED' BOWL
DAOGUANG PERIOD (1821-1850)
The deep rounded sides flare slightly at the rim and are decorated with seven leaf-shaped panels enclosing the Buddhist emblems of the 'Seven Regal Treasures' (the Wheel of the Law, the elephant, the horse, the jewel, a male deity, the Minister and the General), supported on a blossom floating on a band of waves, between borders of shou characters alternating with the bajixiang, A stylized lotus blossom is in the center of the interior, and a 'Baragon Tumed' mark is in iron red on the base.

Lot Essay

The 'Baragon Tumed' mark on the base identifies the bowl as part of a service made at the imperial factories to celebrate the marriage of one of the Daoguang emperor's daughters to a Mongolian prince of the Tumed Banner in 1842.
