A LAPIS LAZULI ARCHAISTIC CENSER, FANGDING
19TH CENTURY
Raised on four dragon-headed supports and with a pair of upright curving handles, the rectangular body is carved in relief with taotie masks divided by notched flanges repeated at the corners between key-fret borders. The vessel is supported on an elaborately inlaid gilt-metal stand and has a similar gilt-metal cover. Together with a small lapis lazuli archaistic vase and cover of rectangular section, the neck of the vase is flanked by a pair of ram's head handles suspending loose rings, and the cover is surmounted by a recumbent ram finial.
