FIRST EDITION of this celebrated collection of portraits of portraits of emperors from Julius Caesar to Charles V. Jacques de Strada was one of the best-known antiquaries of his time. According to Mortimer, "De Tournes' name does not appear in the volume, as it does in the colophon of the Latin edition, but this corresponds too closely to the Latin edition to be the work of another press" (p. 617). Brunet V 557; Fairfax Murray French 517; Mortimer French 503.
