PROBABLY GERMAN, 16TH CENTURY
Each with stout central spike of stiff diamond section, flat-fronted axe-blade pierced with a quatrefoil, slightly downcurved rear fluke pierced with a key-hole shaped slot, two side-straps, and later wooden hafts; together with A BILL (RONCONE) IN ITALIAN 16TH CENTURY STYLE, with characteristic head with fullered central spike, the flats of the head and socket decorated with punched scrollwork, on wooden haft; and A MILITARY PARTIZAN, 18TH CENTURY, with short leaf-shaped blade with vertically recurved side-lugs, turned socket, and later shaped side-straps and studded haft
Respectively with 19½in. (49.5cm.), 21¼in. (54cm.), 27½in. (69.8cm.) and 11¾in. (29.8cm.) heads (4)
