This lovely figure is related to the artistic production of the Eastern Sepik Province. The character, who probably served as a hook, sits in a typical position of this region: he is crouching; his legs and arms are folded. It has a fine surface which is dark and slightly encrusted. However, the treatment of the face is unusual, especially the coffee-bean shaped eyes. This detail, as well as the inclination of the head, slightly turned to the side and to the sky, gives to the object a profound expression. Friede (2007) states that the only related object he ever saw is a Kwoma figure collected by Dadi Wirz in 1950 and now part of the Museum der Kulturen collection in Basel
