晚清 梳背玫瑰椅四張

細節
靠背後彎,搭腦中部高拱,背框和扶手之內裝圓面直欞。椅面裝板,下素牙條。直腿方足,安步步高管腳棖。

靠背和扶手之內裝有形似梳齒直欞的椅子,均稱作「梳背椅」。直欞圍子在結構上借鑒了某些竹製傢具的特點,並與當時門窗流行的「柳條式」戶隔相似。至於玫瑰椅的靠背比一般椅子的低,靠窗台陳設時不會高出窗沿,造型別緻輕巧,南方人又稱「文椅」,可能因較受文人歡迎,這種椅適宜坐以寫作,不宜靠坐休息。

參考一對形制及大小相近的花梨梳背玫瑰椅,1997年3月21日於紐約佳士得拍賣,拍品203號。另一對紅木例子,面下裝格形橫棖,2010年5月11日於倫敦佳士得拍賣,拍品192號。

Compare to the single chair in the Lan Xianmai Collection, illustrated by C. Evarts, et al., Splendor of Style: Classical Furniture of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Taipei, 1999, p. 93; and a pair included in Nicholas Grindley, Exhibition at Kate Ganz, New York, March 2000, no. 9.

A pair of late 18th century huali chairs of very similar shape and size but with a mat seat, from the collection of Dr. Frank Stanton, was sold at Christie's New York, 21 March 1997, lot 203. Another hongmu pair with humpback stretchers in place of plain aprons was sold at Christie's London, 11 May 2010, lot 192.
