A COMPOSITE MILITARY BROADSWORD OF GERMAN KATZBALGER TYPE
THE BLADE 16TH 17TH CENTURY
With reprofiled broad double-edged blade with rounded tip, cut on each side at the forte with twin fullers and double 'S' mark at the forte, iron guard of characteristic form comprising long horizontally recurved rounded quillons each with spirally fluted central section and button-shaped finial, each finial almost touching the stem of the other quillon and retaining some gilding, and short bone grip incised with lines bordered by a short collar extending from the quillon-block below and a long tapering fish-tail pommel above, the pommel and collar each engraved with bands of ropework and with a gilt groove on each face
