AN INSIDE-PAINTED GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE
SIGNED ZHOU LEYUAN, DATED NINTH MONTH, GENGYIN YEAR, CORRESPONDING TO 1890
The bottle is of rounded rectangular form and is well-painted on one side with two figures beneath pine trees in a mountainous landscape, below an inscription, Ruisheng erxiong daren qingwan ('[For the] pure pleasure of your excellency and [my] fraternal friend Ruisheng.') The reverse is painted with fish, and inscribed with a cyclical date, gengyin and a signature, Zhou Leyuan, followed by a seal, Yuan yin.
2½ in. (6.3 cm.) high, rose quartz stopper
