Lot Essay

The prominent scallop shell displayed on the frieze and idiosyncratic foot with acanthus fetlock are distinctive Irish features that seem to have become almost a standard motif. Tables of this type are illustrated in The Knight of Glin and James Peill, Irish Furniture, New Haven and London, 2007, p. 228, cat. 92 and p. 229, cat. 95.
