Publisher’s letterpress note to the reader inserted at front of the first part. 4pp. list of subscribers, engraved double-page map, partly hand-coloured, and 24 fine hand-coloured aquatint plates, un-numbered, by D. Havell and T. Sutherland after C. G. Schutz (original tissue guards browned but plates very clean). Original printed wrappers, UNCUT, PARTIALLY UNOPENED (first and second parts with spines restored, smaller repairs, a few small splits/nicks); folding cloth case.

FINE LARGE-PAPER COPY OF THE FIRST ENGLISH EDITION IN THE ORIGINAL PARTS (the text was originally published in German in Wiesbaden in 1819). VERY RARE: only two other copies have sold at auction in at least thirty-five years, according to ABPC: bound, Christie’s King Street, 20 May 1992; in parts, Sotheby’s London, 15 July 1986, stained, torn and with defective backstrips.
