A WHITE-OVERLAY PINK GLASS SNUFF BOTTLE
POSSIBLY PALACE WORKSHOPS, BEIJING, 1780-1850
The bottle is carved through the opaque white overlay to the opaque rose-tone body on one side with a figure seated beneath a prunus tree and pulling the rein of his donkey in attempt to coax him over a log bridge, while his young attendant raises a whip behind the animal. The other side shows a scene of a scholar, possibly Meng Haoran, riding a donkey beneath a prunus tree while the attendant follows behind holding a flowering prunus branch.
