PALESTINE FRONT, THE ARAB REVOLT, MESOPOTAMIA AND THE GALLIPOLI CAMPAIGNS
2 photograph albums [n.p., n.d., but c.1918], 4° (202 x 232mm). 51 mounted gelatin silver prints (most approx. 142 x 190mm), most with typescript captions and reference numbers. (A few photographs lightly cockled.) Original stitched limp card wrappers, stencilled in ink with photograph reference numbers (lightly soiled and rubbed).
RARE LARGE FORMAT PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE MIDDLE-EASTERN CAMPAIGNS OF WORLD WAR ONE. One album concentrates on the Palestine Front and the Arab Revolt, and includes scenes of Australian cavalry outside and entering Nablus, shots of Haifa, British and Indian troops in Nazareth, Arab regulars searching Bedouin at the entrance to Damascus, and street scenes showing Damascus on the day of the arrival of the Arabs, Australians and British (1 October 1918) in the city. The other album has scenes from Gallipoli, including images of Australian positions at Kapa Tepe, as well as of Bagdad, Kut and the Tigris, ending with two prints (one landscape, one portrait) of the famous entry of General Allenby into Jerusalem by the Jaffa Gate.
