The antcipation had been building throughout the summer of 1985. For years, Pete Rose was one of the most beloved and respected players in the history of the game and now was methodically approaching a record for the ages held by Ty Cobb. Rose's Cincinnati Reds were hosting the San Diego Padres when the moment he had been driven to meet for over twenty years arrived. Pete Rose collected a base hit off of Eric Show for the 4,192nd of his career and in doing so passed Ty Cobb to establish a new MLB record. On field ceremonies, a pause to the game with a packed stadium of adoring fans, and a national television audience all bore witness to the historic moment. Within the Cincinnati Reds dugout, this very lineup card became an unintentional witness to history. Thick stock oversized 11 1/2"x14 3/4" dugout line up card displaying the player line ups for both the Reds and Padres including, of course, Rose and Show among others. Rose has signed the top portion of the card, "Pete Rose 9/11/85" in black sharpie. The card has been affixed to a foam core backing for display and shows a few areas of minor surface wear. After the game the card was removed and retained by Reds' coach Tommy Helms, much to the dismay of team owner Marge Schott who had aspirations to secure it as well but was too late. Helms subsequently sold the card to a prominent Cincinnati area restauranteur, and it eventually ended up within the collecting public. Included with the card is a handwritten note by Helms which has been signed by both he and Pete Rose documenting the relayed history. Unique and important game related item from an iconic MLB moment. Includes full LOAs from PSA/DNA and JSA, handwritten note from Tommy Helms, Handwritten letter from Billy De Mars, documentation of exhibit from Reds Hall of Fame and several other supportive documents: EX
