Harper's Ferry, Virginia

Ferdinand Richardt was born in Denmark in 1819, where he attended the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen. In 1855, he travelled to America, painting throughout numerous places, including New York, Virginia and Kentucky before returning to Denmark in 1859. Richardt permanently emigrated to the United States in 1873 and eventually settled in California. The artist's work is now in numerous museum collections, including the de Young, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and the Oakland Museum of California.
