Lot Essay

The figure exhibits the characteristically sensuous modeling, elongated proportions, and elegant contrapposto posture intrinsic to Newari bronze and copper casting traditions. Compare to two related examples including a Tara (U. von Schroeder, Indo-Tibetan Bronzes, 1981, p. 345, no. 88F) and a standing Lakshmi (Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, 11987.142.355).
