Reference 3710 holds an important place in the history of the Nautilus. Introduced in 1998 and produced until approximately 2006, it was the first Nautilus to incorporate a complication beyond the date indication. While retaining the smooth dial and Roman numerals associated with reference 3800, it also marked the return of the larger ‘Jumbo’ proportions established by the original reference 3700.
One of its most distinctive features is the unusual power-reserve or state-of-wind indication at 12 o’clock, affectionately nicknamed the ‘comet tail’ by collectors. The indication is displayed by means of a rotating disc: once the movement is fully wound, the disc continues to rotate, signalling that the winding mechanism has disengaged from the mainspring barrel.
According to research, approximately 4,000 examples of reference 3710 were produced during its eight-year production run. Dating from 2006, the final year of production, the present example represents one of the last iterations of this distinctive and historically significant Nautilus model.
