A Dutch burr-walnut and marquetry longcase clock
the chequer-strung case decorated overall with floral and bird marquetry, with brass ball and spire finials to the moulded caddy top, fret-carved cornices and sound frets to the sides, brass-capped pilasters to the front, lenticle glass to the trunk door, on plinth with bracket feet, the 11¾in. (30cm.) square brass dial signed on the chapter ring Bart. Vermeulen Amsterdam, with twin cherub and coronet spandrels, the centre with moonphase aperture with age below, alarm disc, calendar aperture with day of the week and relevant zodiacal sign above, the steel hands pierced and engraved with exotic birds and foliate scrolls, with latches to the dial feet and five ringed pillar movement with anchor escapement, with alarm and Dutch strike on twin bells; early 18th century, case altered and restored -- 94in.
