1973 JAGUAR XJ6 4.2 FOUR-DOOR SALOON

Chassis No. IL 66795 DN
Bordeaux red with beige leather interior.

Engine: straight six cylinder, twin overhead camshafts, triple SU carburettors, 4235 cc, 162 bhp at 4750 rpm; transmission; four-speed manual, suspension: fully independent by wishbones and coil springs; brakes: power assisted four-wheel discs.

In many ways the XJ6 may be regarded as the crowning achievement of Sir William Lyons' brilliant career. Of great technical sophistication, with styling that, updated from time to time, has not lost its freshness, the XJ6 was a brilliant successor to the magnificent saloons that preceded it. It was Jaguars first unitary construction saloon, the engine mounted on a seperate sub-frame to insulate passengers from untoward noise and vibration. Its fully independent suspension had anti-drive characteristics and height control. Within the roomy cabin, four fortunate occupants were provided with every refinement ingenuity could provide, there was sumptuous leather upholstery set off by select figured walnut panels. Capable in 4.2 litre form of 120 mph and with sweeping acceleration to match, it was rapturously received by the motoring press and purchasers alike and twice won Car of the Year awards.

The history of this particular example is unknown; it appears to be in sound condition, but unfortunately we had no opportunity to drive it. The paintwork is of average quality and an optional sunroof is fitted.
