AN EARLY GEORGE III MAHOGANY AND POLYCHROME-PAINTED CORNER CUPBOARD
The moulded cornice above a pair of panelled doors flanked by stop-fluted angles and enclosing a blue, red, white, brown and gilt interior with a scallop-shell in the arch above four shelves and three small drawers, the lower section with a pair of panelled doors flanked by ogee moulded angles enclosing three small drawers and a shelf, on ogee bracket feet, the reverse with remains of a storage label 'NELSON' and inscribed in chalk 'WORSLEY', restorations

Lot Essay

The design for this corner cupboard is illustrated in L. Boynton (ed.) Gillow Furniture Designs 1760-1800, Royston, 1995, fig. 174.
A similar corner cupboard, but with swan-neck pediment and inlaid with chequer-banding, was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 12 July 1990, lot 214. Another with similar linen-fold lower panels was offered from a Private Collection, Sotheby's New York, 24 October 1992, lot 295.
