With triangular section shank and pointed oval flat bezel containing a brief naskh inscription, the shoulders with arabesque panels

Lot Essay

A very similar ring was sold in these Rooms 19th October 1995, lot 294, while two more are published (Spink, M. (ed.): Islamic Jewellery, London, 1986, no.46; and Wenzel, Marian: Ornament and Amulet, Rings of the Islamic Lands: The Nasser D. Khalili Collection of Islamic Art, vol. XVI, London, 1993, no.276, pp.94-5 and p.232). The stone die for a ring of very similar design was excavated at Lachish, between Hebron and Gaza (Allan, J.W.: 'Islamic Jewellery and Archaeology', in Spink, M.: op. cit., p.9 and fig.74, p.16).
