Lot Essay

This stamp was employed by Franois-Honoré-Georges Jacob-Desmalter between 1813-25.

These 'chaises à la style Anglaise', with their Grecian tablet rails and sabre legs, mirror patterns published by Thomas Sheraton in his Encyclopaedia of 1804, pl.1. A closely related set of English Regency chairs of this model was sold anonymously at Christie's Edinburgh, 23 May 1996, lot 347.
