Roth, Jewish Art, Israel, 1961, p. 322, where he states, "The type which prevailed in Holland after the settlement of the Jews there in the beginning of the seventeenth century was in the form of a baroque turret obviously inspired by the local church steeples; sometimes with as many as four tiers, surmounted by a crown".
