A BOHEMIAN FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL BY JOHANN PAUL BREITENFELDER OF CARLSBAD
Second quarter of the 18th Century
With sighted barrel formed in two stages with turned girdle between, the breech section engraved with a line of beadwork and signed 'Joh Pavl BreidenFelter', engraved tang, bevelled lock cut with a mounted huntsman shooting a stag and hind, partly against a blackened recessed ground, figured walnut full stock finely carved with elaborate designs of rococo scrollwork in low relief over the length of the butt and also about both the trigger-guard and ramrod-pipe, the butt additionally decorated with a gilt-brass scrollwork plaque cast in low relief and overlaid about the barrel tang, gilt-brass mounts decorated in low relief in the Carlsbad fashion, the side-plate with a boar hunt in wooded landscape, eagle-head pommel cast in the round and fitted with red-painted tongue, horn fore-end cap, horn-tipped ramrod, and the mounts retaining most of their original gilding.
