A George III Scottish mahogany longcase clock, last quarter 18th century
The case with dentil mouldings and blind fret carving to the stepped hood, further blind fret panel flanking the door arch, outset brass-capped spiral-twist columns to the front angles and tracery sound frets to the sides, the hood throating also with dentil mouldings, the panelled trunk door flanked by spiral-twist pilasters with leaf-carved capitals, with carved moulding above a plinth with quatreform panel and raised on bracket feet, the 13in. wide cut-away brass dial with engraved running scroll border around a painted rolling moon in the arch, with mask and urn spandrels to the silvered chapter ring with dotted minute track, signed Daniel Brown GLASGOW, with subsidiary seconds (lacking hand) and date rings (later hand) to the foliate scroll engraved centre, black painted hands, the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement, with hour strike on bell and quarter chimes on three nested bells -- 82½in. (210cm.) high
