Lot Essay

Cf. the service of this pattern made to the order of Louis-César-Renaud, Vicomte de Choiseul and delivered between 1st October 1766 and 1st January 1767, sold in these Rooms on the 17th April 2000, lot 89. The majority of this service bore the date letter N for 1766. It is very possible that this is a slightly later replacement for that service; it is interesting to note that in a 1791 inventory of the Choiseul service, two plates were lacking, of which this could be one.
