With fullered single-edged blade finely etched on one side with a martial trophy, foliage and a thistle, and signed on the other side 'Kennedy, Manufacturer No. 53 Loveday Street, Birmingham & at Mr. Tapolette's. Little British London', the back-edge stamped 'Dawes', blackened wooden hilt (pommel missing) decorated with cut-steel studs and rectangles, the front with applied silver numerals '42' (for the 42nd Regiment, the Black Watch), in its original steel scabbard with extra knife en suite (two further extra pieces missing, some surface pitting)
