Lot Essay

Harold Gaze was born in Christchurch, New Zealand and came to Southern California in the 1920's after studying art in England. Gaze was known for his fanciful paintings such as Lute Player and Fairies and The Enchanted Stream and illustrated a number of children's books with images of similar subject matter.

There is an unfinished sketch depicting a young girl by a stream on the reverse.
