INDENTMajor George Trevor Harley Thomas, born 1860, became Surgeon Captain 1883, Surgeon Major 1895 and Major, R.A.M.C. 1895; during the South African war, 1899-1902, was present during the operations in Cape Colony including the actions at Colesberg 15th January to 12th February 1900 and the operations in the Orange River Colony, July 1901 to May 1902; retired 1903 but was re-employed during the Great War from August, 1914

Major Charles Mervyn Barbour (1857-1934), entered the Royal Artillery as Lieutenant, 1876; Captain 1884, Major 1893; commanded 73 Battery, R.F.A. from November 1893 which remained under his control until he retired in 1901; accompanied his battery to South Africa, November 1899 and took part in the relief of Ladysmith and the operations on the Tugela Heights, the operations in Natal, March to June 1900 and those in the Orange River Colony, April to August 1901; Major Barbour was re-employed on artillery duties from September 1914 to 1917
